Products Overview: Femtocell / Picocell Solutions
Public Wireless, the specialist in wireless siting solutions, incorporates Distributed Network Element (DNE) /femto/picocell solution specifically designed for outdoor 3G hotspot locations increasing carrier' capacity and/or coverage fast and cost effective. 3G hotspots address the front line of the smartphone-led explosion in data usage and supply the needed voice coverage and capacity for data hungry users. These hotspots may be found in busy urban centers, train stations, high traffic areas, crowded events or topographically diverse suburban and rural locations.
The DNE femto/picocell provides targeted, low-cost solutions that can be rapidly installed and easily maintained. It automatically complements the existing macro network and adapts to changes in the adjacent macro and femtocell/picocell networks. Unlike a traditional base station, Public Wireless solution does not use the expensive and increasingly congested radio access network for backhauling to the core network. Instead the primary backhaul solution use is low-cost DSL or cable infrastructure.
The Public Wireless' Femtocell/Picocell solution comprises the carriers' approved femto/picocell modules. It is powered by the integrated antenna, power amplifier, power supply, modem and proprietary management system monitoring all critical performance parameters of the operation for the DNE femtocell/picocell solution, which also ensures adaptive compatibility with the macro network for service continuity. Each DNE femtocell/picocell is monitored 24/7 through Public Wireless' NOC.
Public Wireless Femtocells/Picocells deployed with IP backhaul on LEC or CABLE infrastructure will eliminate both the intermediate fiber infrastructure construction costs and the BTS / DAS hotel expenses of a traditional DAS network. The amplified femtocell/icocell deployed in this manner with IP backhaul from DSL or Cable Modem has very effective upfront costs (all inclusive of space, equipment, install, etc.) and a recurring license charge. These costs and the deployment timeline as fast as 90 days compare very favorably to any DAS alternative.
Cable Strand Femtocell/Picocell:
- The CM-100 system is comprised of a single assembly and separate antenna
- Designed to attach to existing cable infrastructure
- Utilizes the existing line power and backhaul from the cable network
- Much faster deployment cycle than standard micro or macro-cellular base stations
- Above ground cable infrastructure throughout the US (65%) provides a vast number of potential sites
- Cable arrangement will bypass lengthy zoning processes
- Simple and fast installation onto the aerial cable plant (< 1 hour)
- 20'-23' elevation over ground providing good RF coverage
- Ready access to AC power and data backhaul via the cable plant
- High reliability due to the environmentally hardened design
